Fire Closes Jacksonville International Airport After Multi-Vehicle Blaze

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville International Airport closed Friday afternoon after a multi-vehicle fire broke out inside one of its parking garages. Dark smoke was seen billowing from the Hourly Garage around 12:30 p.m.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue (JFRD) were quickly dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze. Multiple vehicles caught fire on level three of the daily parking garage, prompting an immediate closure of the airport.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) blocked all inbound and outbound road access to the airport to ensure the safety of travelers and emergency responders. At least two dozen flights were delayed as efforts continued.
<p“Due to a fire in the Hourly Garage, the airport is currently closed,” the airport communicated via social media. “JFRD is on-site working the issue. Additional details will be forthcoming soon.”
Traffic reports indicated that road access remained blocked even as fire crews continued their work. News4JAX dispatched a crew to the location to gather more information as the situation developed.
Airport officials confirmed that the fire was contained, and no injuries were reported. Evacuations were conducted as a precautionary measure for travelers and staff conducting operations in nearby areas.
Updates regarding flight status and access to the airport are expected from local authorities as investigations into the cause of the fire begin.
