Flash Flood Warning Issued for Brevard and Volusia Counties

ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Weather Service in Melbourne issued a Flash Flood Warning on Sunday for northwestern Brevard County and southeastern Volusia County due to heavy rainfall from slow-moving thunderstorms.
The warning was issued at 4:22 p.m. and is effective until 6:15 p.m. Radar estimates indicate that 2 to 4 inches of rain has already fallen in the affected areas, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible. Forecasters cautioned that flash flooding is currently either ongoing or expected to start shortly.
The threat of flooding impacts small creeks, streams, urban areas, roads, and low-lying spots. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways and to remain vigilant, especially in rural parts of Brevard and Volusia counties.
The public is reminded by officials to ‘turn around, don’t drown’ when encountering water-covered roads, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
According to Doppler radar data, continued showers and storms are expected to develop during the late afternoon and evening hours, with some storms potentially becoming severe.
As residents navigate the potential hazards, they can track storm movements with live updates from the FOX 35 Storm Tracker Radar.
