Fluminense Seeks Victory to Advance in Copa Sudamericana

LA PAZ, Bolivia — Fluminense aims to secure its spot in the final phase of the Copa Conmebol Sudamericana this Thursday against San José. A victory or a draw at the Gualberto Villarroel Stadium would ensure their advancement to the next round.
However, Fluminense’s coach, Mano Menezes, faces challenges in the attack. Key player Germán Cano is sidelined due to injury, and Everaldo is resting. As a result, Kevin Serna, who recently scored in his last match, is expected to step up and potentially lead the team’s attack.
“Without Cano and with Everaldo resting, Kevin Serna must be the choice for Renato Gaúcho’s coaching staff to spearhead Fluminense’s offense against San José, especially in the altitude of La Paz on Thursday,” reported Globo Esporte.
Serna has shown versatility and adaptability under Coach Menezes. Since his arrival, he has participated in seven out of nine matches and proved his worth as a valuable player. He could play more centrally in the attack, taking up a role similar to that of Liverpool’s Luis Díaz as a center forward.
“Serna has gained ground due to his versatility. He has played predominantly as a right winger but also performed well on the left. With Cano injured and Everaldo unavailable, the expectation is for him to assume a more central role,” added the report.
In 2025 alone, Kevin Serna has logged 929 minutes over 23 matches in events such as the Brasileirao, Copa Sudamericana, and Copa de Brasil, contributing to six goals with four goals scored and two assists.
