Philadelphia Flyers Vs New York Rangers 2025

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Philadelphia Flyers (22-20-6) and New York Rangers (23-20-4) will clash Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in a pivotal Eastern Conference matchup. Both teams enter the game with 50 standings points, intensifying the battle for playoff positioning.

The game, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST, will be televised on NBCSP and broadcast on 97.5 The Fanatic. This marks the second meeting of the season between the historic rivals, with the Flyers securing a 3-1 victory on Black Friday in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia rides a six-game point streak, including three consecutive wins, while the Rangers are 6-1-3 in their last 10 games. The Flyers recalled winger Anthony Richard from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, adding depth to their lineup. Richard, who has 19 points in 18 AHL games this season, is expected to play on the fourth line alongside Rodrigo Abols and Garnet Hathaway.

Joel Farabee has been a standout for the Flyers since returning to the lineup, contributing four points in three games. His line with Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov has been particularly effective, earning praise from head coach John Tortorella. “They were our best shift-in and shift-out trio in the game,” Tortorella said after Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime win against Detroit.

In net, the Flyers will likely split goaltending duties between Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov during their back-to-back games in New York. Ersson has been stellar since the holiday break, posting a 7-1-0 record with a 1.56 goals against average and .933 save percentage.

The Rangers counter with Igor Shesterkin, who enters the game with a 164:03 shutout streak. Shesterkin has not lost in regulation in January, including back-to-back shutouts against Columbus and Ottawa. Offensively, Alex Lafreniere has been a force for New York, riding a nine-game point streak (6 goals, 3 assists).

With eight teams separated by just six points in the Eastern Conference wildcard race, Thursday’s game carries significant playoff implications. The Flyers and Rangers will conclude their season series on April 9 at Madison Square Garden.
