Nmims Hyderabad Food Poisoning Incident

HYDERABAD, India — More than 25 students at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Jadcherla, Hyderabad, were hospitalized this week after experiencing food poisoning symptoms following campus meals. Reports indicate that many students suffered from nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and fever after consuming the food.

Instead of immediate hospital transfers, students received treatment from private doctors on campus, with some being treated on library and common room floors, raising serious concerns about the handling of health emergencies at the institution. Allegations have surfaced that NMIMS administration attempted to downplay the severity of the incident.

“We have raised multiple complaints about the quality of food for a long time. Ignoring our concerns forced us to endure this situation,” one affected student stated. Reports suggest that previous complaints regarding the quality of food ingredients, including substandard vegetables and cooking oil, were disregarded by the management.

Jadcherla MLA P. Anirudh Reddy visited NMIMS after being informed about the outbreak and criticized the university’s response, calling it inadequate. “You are only trying to protect the university. Protect the children. Shift them to hospitals immediately. If anything happens, who will take responsibility?” he questioned, urging university officials to act swiftly.

On his intervention, 15 to 20 students were eventually transferred to hospitals in Mahabubnagar and Hyderabad for more comprehensive medical care. The MLA’s visit and the students’ complaints have spotlighted the increasing concerns over food safety and medical preparedness at the campus.

In response, an NMIMS spokesperson stated, “We have been continuously updating parents about the situation to ensure complete transparency. Our top priority remains the health and well-being of our students, and we are taking all necessary steps to strengthen food safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.”

The spokesperson also mentioned that an investigation will be conducted into the incident, emphasizing that while 27 students were affected, news of the situation had circulated before the administration could adequately respond.

To prevent such incidents moving forward, the administration indicated plans to enhance food safety standards, while students have been advised to remain vigilant regarding the meals provided at the institute.

As authorities work to ensure the well-being of students, the NMIMS campus community remains under scrutiny over its food safety practices and health crisis management capabilities.
