Former Moroccan and Olympique de Marseille Midfielder Abdelaziz Barrada Passes Away at 35
Abdelaziz Barrada, a former midfielder for Olympique de Marseille and the Moroccan national team, has passed away at the age of 35. The news was confirmed by several Moroccan media outlets and journalists, including Izem Anass, a member of the executive committee of the Union of Moroccan Sports Journalists.
Barrada had a notable career, having been formed in part at Paris Saint-Germain between 2007 and 2010. He began his professional career in Spain with Getafe from 2011 to 2013, before moving to the United Arab Emirates and later joining Olympique de Marseille, where he played from 2014 to 2016. He also had stints in Turkey, the second division of Spain, and Qatar.
As an international player, Barrada represented Morocco 28 times, scoring four goals. He was a key player during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. His sudden death has been attributed to a heart attack, according to reports from the Tinghir region in Morocco.
The football community has been left in shock and mourning, with tributes pouring in from former teammates and colleagues. Amine Harit, a current midfielder for Olympique de Marseille, expressed his condolences on social media, saying, “Abdelaziz Barrada, may Allah have mercy on you, support to your loved ones”.
