Former Nba Chairman Wins Edo State Labour Party Governorship Primary Election

Former National Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, emerged as the winner of the Edo State Labour Party governorship primary election on Friday.

The Returning Officer for the election, Ikechukwu Emetu, who is also the Deputy Governor of Abia State, declared Akpata victorious after a thorough collation of the results.

With a total of 316 votes, Akpata secured the win in the exercise, showing a strong support base within the party.

Addressing earlier speculations, Akpata clarified in December 2023 that his gubernatorial ambition does not receive backing from Edo State GovernorGodwin Obaseki.

He refuted claims that Obaseki might support him in case his preferred candidate within the Peoples Democratic Party failed to clinch the ticket, asserting his independence in the political race.

During the 2023 Press Week award ceremony of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Benin, Akpata, who graced the occasion as a Special Guest, expressed dismay at allegations implying that he was attempting to purchase the Labour Party ticket with financial incentives.
