PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Former NFL cornerback Ronald Darby has announced his retirement after a decade in the league. Darby, 31, informed the media that he will step away from football following a productive season with the Houston Texans.

Originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Darby quickly made a name for himself. He spent time with multiple teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played a crucial role in the team’s Super Bowl LII victory over the New England Patriots.

During his career, Darby started 107 games and recorded 447 tackles, eight interceptions, and 106 pass breakups. His final season with the Texans saw him making 28 tackles and seven pass deflections across seven starts.

Darby joined the Texans on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million after being released by the Ravens earlier in the year. He had signed a two-year, $10 million contract with Houston in March 2023 and even started 12 games that season, showcasing his value despite the ups and downs of his career.

“It’s been a great journey, but it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life,” Darby said. “I appreciate all the support from my teammates and coaches throughout the years.”

Darby’s decision comes as a surprise following his recent performance. In addition to his Super Bowl victory with the Eagles, he played significant moments for various teams and leaves behind a notable legacy in the NFL.
