Former NFL Linebacker Vilma Arrested for Driving with Suspended License

MIAMI BEACH, Florida — Former NFL linebacker Jon Vilma was arrested on Wednesday after police stopped him for driving with a suspended license. The incident was first reported by Fox Sports 640 and later confirmed by NJ Advance Media.
According to the Miami Beach Police Department, Vilma was pulled over for driving a white 2023 Mercedes with expired tags. His vehicle tags expired on April 30, 2024, while his driver’s license has been suspended since October 5, 2023.
During the stop, police discovered that Vilma had an active bench warrant, leading to his arrest. The arrest affidavit detailed several additional citations, including driving a vehicle with expired registration for more than six months, not having proof of insurance, and restrictions related to sunscreen materials on his windshield.
This is not the first time Vilma has faced legal trouble for driving issues. Records show he was previously cited for driving with a suspended license in April 2025. He failed to appear in court, and a bench warrant was subsequently issued.
Additionally, Vilma was arrested in February 2009 for resisting arrest, reckless driving, and obstruction of justice, though those charges were later dropped.
Vilma is a notable figure in the NFL, having been drafted as the 12th overall pick by the New York Jets in 2004. He earned the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award that season. Over his career, he also played for the New Orleans Saints, helping the team win Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts. Currently, he is on the ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
