Gabe Kapler Named General Manager of Miami Marlins
MIAMI, Fla. — Gabe Kapler has been promoted to general manager of the Miami Marlins, the team announced on Monday. This change marks a significant step in Kapler’s career, as he ascends from assistant general manager, a position he held since December 2023.
Kapler, 50, is the sixth person to take on the general manager role in Marlins history. He has a noteworthy history as a manager, having led the San Francisco Giants from 2020 to 2023 and the Philadelphia Phillies from 2018 to 2019. He finished with a record of 295-248 in San Francisco, notably guiding the team to a franchise-record 107 wins and the National League West title in 2021.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of the Marlins organization,” Kapler said. “The growth and momentum we’ve built are a direct reflection of a clear vision, a strong culture, and an incredible team working together toward a shared goal. I’m proud to help continue that progress.”
Under the leadership of Marlins president Peter Bendix, Kapler has focused on player development and strategy. During his time as assistant general manager, the Marlins’ minor league system thrived, with four affiliates making the playoffs in 2025 and the Triple-A team winning the National Championship.
In addition to Kapler’s promotion, the Marlins also made other notable advancements in their front office. Frankie Piliere was named vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives, while Vinesh Kanthan was elevated to senior director of baseball operations.
<p“These three leaders have each made a meaningful impact since joining our team,” Bendix stated. “Their advancement reflects our commitment to building a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.”
The Marlins finished the 2025 season with a 79-83 record, narrowly missing the playoffs. They will kick off their 2026 season at home against the Colorado Rockies on March 26, 2026.
