Garcia Powers Sooners in Dominant Victory Over Longhorns

NORMAN, Okla. — Gabbie Garcia hit her 14th home run of the season on Sunday, extending the Oklahoma Sooners’ lead to 5-0 against the Texas Longhorns in the second inning of their matchup. Garcia displayed her batting prowess, fouling off six pitches before sending the 11th pitch deep to right-center field.
With the victory, the No. 4 Sooners clinched the series against No. 3 Texas, winning Game 2, 7-2, and looking to complete the sweep in their final home game of the season.
“I just focused on staying patient at the plate,” Garcia said. “I was ready for my pitch, and I capitalized when it came.”
Isabella Smith also shined on Senior Day, retiring the side for the second consecutive inning and earning a strikeout, showcasing her skills on the mound.
Oklahoma opened the scoring in the first inning when Ella Parker hit a two-run homer into the right field bleachers, bringing home Kasidi Pickering, who reached base after a walk. The Sooners built on that momentum, adding runs in the following innings.
In the bottom of the third, Nelly McEnroe-Marinas contributed with her 14th home run, a two-out, two-RBI shot that scored Pickering. Pitcher Kierston Deal continued her strong performance, limiting the Longhorns’ offense and maintaining a flawless game until the final inning.
“Kierston was fantastic today,” Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso said. “She kept them off balance and showed great composure.”
As the game progressed, Abby Dayton also made significant contributions, hitting a two-RBI single in the fifth to push Oklahoma’s lead to 5-0. The Sooners finally sealed the game with a strong performance, finishing with a score of 7-2 after a late rally by the Longhorns fell short.
The Sooners aim to wrap up the series with a win later today at 2 p.m. ET.
