Garrick Higgo Golf Corales Championship 2025

Puntacana, Dominican Republic – Garrick Higgo navigated a challenging course during the second round of the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship on Friday, ultimately finishing with a 4-under 68 and a total score of 12-under through two rounds. The South African golfer found himself in a precarious situation on the par-5 14th hole after his second shot went awry.

“Wind was in off the right, I was trying to lay up with a 3-wood. That’s how long that par 5’s playing. I just kind of heeled it slightly and it just went on the wind,” Higgo recounted. “So I’d say probably just not the best time to hit a heel fade, but I was kind of lucky, my lie was fine, I was just standing on some kind of dead tree, or we weren’t sure what it was.”

Despite the difficult lie, Higgo successfully hacked the ball out of the dense grasses and back to the fairway, setting himself up for a putt that helped him maintain a strong position in the tournament. Following a birdie on the 16th hole, Higgo faced a bogey on 17, but finished with a par on the 18th.

As results stand, Higgo is tied with Charley Hoffman and Michael Thorbjornsen, four strokes behind the leader, Joel Dahmen. “I’m going to go for it,” Higgo declared about his strategy for the upcoming rounds. “I feel like in the past every time I’ve given myself a chance, I’ve kind of taken advantage of it. My goal is to give myself more chances, and I feel like I’m starting to do that. I’m always aggressive, so I expect myself to be up there.”

This week marks Higgo’s 99th PGA Tour start, and he has previously claimed one PGA Tour victory at the 2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree. After a challenging year that saw him struggle to maintain his tour card, Higgo is back competing this season and appears to be finding his footing again.

With the weekend approaching, Higgo and his competitors will look to close the gap on Dahmen, who remains firmly in control of the leaderboard. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Higgo to see if he can capitalize on his opportunities and reclaim his position among golf’s elite.
