George Clooney Nominated for Tony Award for Broadway Debut

NEW YORK CITY, NY — George Clooney is celebrated for his Broadway debut at the 2025 Tony Awards on June 8, where he is nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play. Clooney, 64, is recognized for his role in the production of ‘Good Night, and Good Luck,’ which opened at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 3.
The event took place at Radio City Musical Hall, a fitting venue for such a significant night in theater. Clooney, accompanied by his wife Amal, stepped out in a classic black tuxedo, proudly displaying his natural silver hair, which he previously dyed dark for the show.
Amal dazzled in a beaded white column gown, enhancing her look with elegant accessories including a matching clutch. The couple, married since 2014 and parents of seven-year-old twins, appeared to be in high spirits as they walked the red carpet.
The play is a stage adaptation of Clooney’s 2005 political drama film centered around Edward R. Murrow‘s pivotal exposé of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Clooney, alongside Grant Heslov, adapted the film for the stage, with direction by Tony Award winner David Cromer.
In a recent appearance on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers,’ Clooney joked about the changing color of his hair, stating, ‘It’s bad. It’s still dark on top, but it’s gray at the bottom.’ Despite the transformation, he expressed enthusiasm for the event, adding that he planned to revert to his signature look after the Tony Awards.
George and Amal Clooney have embraced their time in New York, with the actor remarking on its excitement, especially while balancing work and family life. He shared, ‘A play is kind of a good schedule because you’re working at night; you get to see the kids during the day.’
The 2025 Tony Awards will air at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+. Clooney is honored to be part of this year’s nominations, truly embodying the spirit of Broadway.
