Pittsburgh Steelers George Pickens Trade Rumors

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, trade discussions surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens are intensifying. Reports indicate that multiple teams, including the Green Bay Packers, have expressed interest in acquiring the talented receiver.

Pickens, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, has been labeled as an “intriguing trade name to watch,” according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. His potential departure from Pittsburgh follows the recent acquisition of star receiver DK Metcalf, which may complicate the Steelers’ salary cap situation.

An AFC general manager noted, “It’s just not in their DNA to spend that much on two wideouts,” suggesting that Pickens could be more available than fans might expect. This sentiment appears to have gained traction, and conversations regarding Pickens have taken place, although the Steelers are not actively shopping him.

In the 2024 season, Pickens played in 14 games, leading the Steelers with 900 receiving yards on 59 catches and contributing three touchdowns. His impressive performance in 2023, where he amassed 1,140 yards and five touchdowns, showcased his capability as a top-tier receiver. However, he has faced criticism for off-the-field issues, raising questions about his fit for teams like Green Bay, which values a strong locker room culture.

Steelers general manager Omar Khan expressed optimism regarding Pickens earlier this year, stating, “He has a desire to be great here, with respect to the contract.” Despite Khan’s positive remarks, the substantial contract extension given to Metcalf leaves the Steelers in a tricky position regarding compensation for Pickens should they decide to trade him. Evaluating a potential deal becomes imperative as the Steelers weigh their options ahead of the draft.

The Packers, looking to boost their receiver corps, could benefit significantly from Pickens’ skills. With star receiver Christian Watson missing part of the upcoming season due to an ACL injury, adding a player like Pickens would provide the team with a much-needed deep threat.

As the countdown to the draft continues, it remains to be seen whether the Steelers will listen to offers for Pickens, or if they will prioritize keeping him on their roster for at least one more season.
