Georgia’s Election Day: Key Battles and Issues on the Ballot
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Residents of Fulton County will head to the polls on Nov. 4 to decide on a variety of municipal races and local ballot questions across more than a dozen cities.
Key mayoral contests are on the ballots in alpharetta, Chattahoochee Hills, College Park, East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, Palmetto, Roswell, Sandy Springs, South Fulton, and Union City. Several cities will also weigh special referendums.
Johns Creek is asking voters for approval of up to $40 million in bonds to build a performing arts center. Meanwhile, Hapeville and East Point are each seeking support for a one-percent sales tax to fund water and sewer projects. College Park voters will decide on the removal of an income cap from its senior and disabled homestead tax exemption.
Additionally, two countywide questions propose new homestead exemptions on school district property taxes for older residents. One option offers a 50-percent exemption for homeowners aged 70 and older, while the other proposes a 25 percent exemption for those aged 65 and older.
This election day is particularly significant due to the rare occurrence of local races in an odd year. Voters will have a chance to influence both local leadership and fiscal policies that could affect them for years to come.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. Residents are encouraged to check their polling places and review their specific sample ballots ahead of time.
