Gervonta Davis Faces Lawsuit Ahead of Jake Paul Fight
Miami, Florida – Boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis is facing serious legal troubles as a new civil lawsuit has been filed against him just two weeks before his scheduled fight with Jake Paul on November 14. The lawsuit, filed by his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel in Miami-Dade County, accuses Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
According to the complaint obtained by ESPN, Rossel alleges that on October 27, Davis entered Tootsies, the Miami gentlemen’s club where she worked as a VIP cocktail server, and brutally attacked her in an area without cameras. She claims he dragged her through the club before physically assaulting her in the parking garage.
Rossel states that she and Davis had a five-month relationship prior to the incident, detailing a pattern of abuse that included several threats to her life. The lawsuit mentions at least four previous incidents in which Davis allegedly assaulted and choked her. Rossel claims that during one incident on September 2, he threatened to kill her for not answering his calls.
In the aftermath of this latest alleged assault, Rossel expressed that she is currently suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and extreme anxiety, prompting her to seek therapeutic treatment. The lawsuit demands compensatory and punitive damages of over $50,000, along with a jury trial.
This incident comes after another domestic violence case against Davis was dropped just two months prior. Davis has had various legal issues in the past, including charges related to domestic violence and a 2023 hit-and-run case in Baltimore.
Representatives for Davis have not responded to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit. The ongoing developments raise questions about the impact of this legal matter on the upcoming fight against Jake Paul, as promoters for the event are reportedly gathering information and reviewing the situation.
According to a statement from Most Valuable Promotions, the fight’s promoters, they are committed to ensuring the handling of the matter is thorough and respectful. Davis, currently with a professional record of 30 wins, no losses, and one draw, is facing significant scrutiny as this lawsuit threatens to overshadow the highly anticipated boxing event.
