Giants Consider Trading Brian Burns as Bears Seek Pass Rusher
East Rutherford, New Jersey — The New York Giants are contemplating trading pass rusher Brian Burns, who they acquired from the Carolina Panthers last year. With a disappointing 2025 season of only two wins so far, the Giants appear to be leaning toward a rebuilding phase.
The Chicago Bears, currently 4-3 and aiming for playoff contention, are seen as potential buyers for a player like Burns. Chicago’s need for a pass rusher intensified after the injury to Dayo Odeyingbo, leaving them in search of immediate help in that position.
Rumored terms of a possible trade suggest the Bears could send a 2026 first-round pick to the Giants in exchange for Burns, who has recorded 11 sacks this season. “Adding a proven pass rusher like Burns would significantly boost our defense,” a Bears representative explained.
Burns, under a five-year contract worth $141 million with approximately $87.5 million guaranteed, remains an elite player. However, the Giants’ recent draft picks, including edge rusher Abdul Carter, could lead to considerations of offloading Burns to recoup valuable draft capital.
With the Giants’ offense faltering and injuries sidelining key players such as Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo, trading high-value veterans could pave the way for a younger, more promising roster.
Conversely, Thibodeaux, another edge rusher for the Giants, is speculated as trade bait as well. Chicago’s struggles in pass rushing make him a desirable target, alongside other teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. “The market for pass rushers is competitive,” said a league source, hinting that the Giants could leverage this situation.
As the NFL trade deadline looms on November 4, both teams face crucial decisions. For the Giants, moving Burns may set the foundation for a rebuild, while the Bears hope to solidify their defense for a playoff push.
