San Francisco, California — The San Francisco Giants defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-4 in a tightly contested game on Friday night, with a dramatic finish in the 10th inning at Oracle Park.

With two outs in the 10th, Giants’ player Fitzgerald scored on a wild pitch thrown by reliever Johnson, marking the third consecutive victory for San Francisco. Fitzgerald, who was on second base to start the inning, advanced to third after a groundout and capitalized on the wild pitch to score the winning run.

This defeat marked Atlanta’s fifth straight loss and continues their recent struggles. The Braves appeared to be in a strong position after tying the game in the seventh inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Olson off reliever Birdsong.

In the first inning, the Giants capitalized on defensive errors by Atlanta, scoring three runs, including one on a wild pitch by Schwellenbach. Despite a slow start to the game, the Giants managed to take a 4-2 lead before the Braves fought back.

A key moment came in the fourth inning when Murphy hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded for Atlanta. Olson easily scored, but a strange incident involving a thrown ball from the stands caused confusion, prompting umpires to discuss the play before allowing it to stand.

Both teams have played a total of 26 one-run games this season, tied for the most in Major League Baseball. As of now, the Giants hold a 14-12 record in those matchups, while the Braves sit at 9-17.

Next, Atlanta will send RHP Elder (2-3, 4.56 ERA) to the mound for the middle game of the series against San Francisco’s RHP Webb (5-5, 2.55 ERA) on Saturday.
