Excitement is building as the 2024 Paris Olympics kicks off, and one of the most talked-about performances will come from the legendary heavy metal band Gojira. Known for their powerful music and environmental advocacy, they are set to make history as the first metal band to take the stage at the Opening Ceremonies along the Seine.

Formed in 1996 by brothers Joe and Mario Duplantier in the small French town of Ondres, Gojira originally went by the name Godzilla. Due to copyright issues, they changed their name in 2001, but their impact in the music scene has only grown since then. Their debut album, “Terra Incognita,” was released the same year and marked the beginning of their incredible journey.

Gojira has garnered multiple Grammy nominations over the years, with their album “From Mars to Sirius” earning them high praise. Rolling Stone even recognized it as one of the best albums, particularly highlighting its themes of marine-mammal preservation.

Alongside Gojira, the French opera singer Marina Viotti will be sharing the stage, making for a unique blend of heavy metal and opera that audiences can’t wait to experience. Interestingly, Gojira holds the record for the loudest concert at Stade de France, so fans at the Olympic ceremony can expect a truly unforgettable performance.
