Golden Knights Seek Redemption Against Red Wings After Last Week’s Loss

DETROIT, Michigan — The Vegas Golden Knights will look to avenge their recent loss to the Detroit Red Wings as they prepare to host them on Saturday at 5 p.m. The teams last faced off on March 16, where the Golden Knights fell 3-0 after a grueling back-to-back schedule.
Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy attributed the loss to fatigue from the team’s second game in 24 hours, saying, “We were tired.” In that match, Vegas managed only 18 shots on goal and committed three penalties compared to just one for Detroit. It marked the Knights’ fourth shutout of the season.
Since that defeat, the Golden Knights bounced back impressively with a 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Thursday. Pavel Dorofeyev shined in that game, scoring his second career hat trick, while William Karlsson returned to the lineup after a two-month absence, notching an assist.
“When you score goals, you gain more confidence,” center Tomas Hertl said about Dorofeyev. “He works hard every game, and it pays off.” The Golden Knights registered 32 shots against Boston and committed only one penalty.
The Red Wings, meanwhile, have struggled to maintain momentum following their victory over Vegas. They fell to the Washington Capitals 4-1 on Tuesday, allowing three goals in the third period. This defeat now places Detroit four points shy of a playoff spot with 70 points in the standings.
Detroit’s top players, including Lucas Raymond, who has 69 points this season, Dylan Larkin with 50 points, and Alex DeBrincat, who scored 31 goals, remain key contributors as the team fights for a playoff berth. Coach Cassidy noted the importance of being prepared for the Red Wings’ speed and skill, referencing their effective forecheck and power play.
In other team news, goaltender Adin Hill will start again for the Golden Knights after successfully stopping 18 shots against the Bruins. Detroit’s starting goalie for Saturday is yet to be confirmed, with their lineup affected by injuries to players like Carter Mazur and Erik Gustafsson.
As the teams gear up for their matchup at T-Mobile Arena, the Golden Knights are favored by betting lines at -218, while the total points are set at 5.5.
The upcoming contest is crucial for both teams. The Golden Knights currently lead the Pacific Division with their recent win, while the Red Wings remain in a tight race for the Eastern Conference Wild Card spots.
