Google Unveils Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL Phones
Google has recently introduced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, shaking up their usual product line with two high-end options. This move resembles Apple’s strategy, which often offers both a regular and a larger, more luxurious version of its iPhones.
The Pixel 9 Pro starts at a price of £999 for the 128GB version, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL begins at £1,099. While both models carry the same powerful Google Tensor G4 processor, they differ significantly in size and battery capacity. The 9 Pro features a compact 6.3-inch display, while the 9 Pro XL comes with a larger 6.8-inch screen, boasting an impressive resolution.
Battery life is another point of distinction, with the Pro XL equipped with a bigger 5,060mAh battery compared to the 4,700mAh in the Pro model. Charging speeds for both devices are expected to provide fast results, reaching nearly half a charge in just 30 minutes with the right charger, though the exact speeds weren’t highlighted in the announcement.
Both phones share similar camera setups, including a 50MP main sensor and a new 48MP ultrawide lens, which is particularly exciting for photography enthusiasts. However, the design has undergone a change, moving away from the classic camera bar to a more oval housing, which some might find less appealing.
One point of concern is the pricing strategy. Even though the Pixel 9 Pro keeps the same starting price as last year’s model, it offers less than the previous Pixel 8 Pro in terms of size and battery. Meanwhile, the Pro XL costs more than the Pixel 8 Pro as well, raising eyebrows among potential buyers.
The standard Pixel 9 represents a more budget-friendly option starting at $799, still powered by the Tensor G4 chip but with a slightly lesser RAM of 12GB. Despite not having all the features of the Pro line, it promises to deliver excellent photographic capabilities with the same camera quality at a lower price.
This year, Google’s phones get a fresh design with flatter edges and modern styling, featuring Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for added durability. As always, Google promises seven years of updates for all models, ensuring that users will stay up-to-date for years to come.
