Gophers Vs Green Bay Basketball

Minneapolis, MN – The Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s basketball team narrowly defeated the Green Bay Phoenix 72-65 in overtime on Saturday night. The game, held at Williams Arena, showcased the Gophers’ struggles following a loss to Missouri earlier in the week.

Despite entering the game as 27.5-point favorites, the Gophers experienced a sluggish start, trailing 27-23 at halftime. They shot just 8 of 27 in the first half, while Green Bay dominated the boards with a 22-12 rebound advantage.

Cade Tyson led Minnesota with 27 points on 7 of 14 shooting. Known for his scoring ability, he was pivotal in the overtime period as the team’s offense faltered. He missed two crucial free throws with 11 seconds remaining, allowing Green Bay a chance to tie the game, which they did with a last-second shot.

In overtime, Minnesota was determined to secure the win, shooting 20 of 39 from the free-throw line overall. Jaylen Crocker-Johnson contributed 11 points, supporting Tyson as they sought to rally against a resurgent Green Bay team.

Green Bay’s head coach Doug Gottlieb, in his second season, faced off against Minnesota after his team had just lost by 19 points to St. Thomas. The performance by the Gophers raised concerns about their form moving into the next match against Chicago State on Tuesday.

The Gophers improved to 3-1 with the win and will look to find more consistency in their upcoming games as they navigate this rebuilding season under head coach Niko Medved.
