Gotham FC Faces Chicago Stars in Anticipated Matchup

HARRISON, New Jersey – After spending time in Washington, D.C., NJ/NY Gotham FC returns home to play Chicago Stars FC on Sunday. This will be Gotham’s third home game of the season, and they come into the match boasting a five-game winning streak against the Stars across all competitions.
Gotham FC is fresh off three consecutive road games within eight days. Despite a recent setback against Portland Thorns FC, the overall performance of the team appears positive. The loss to Portland was preceded by two convincing victories over the Washington Spirit, with scores of 4-0 and 3-0.
Chicago Stars FC, on the other hand, is struggling. They recently lost two matches, putting them at the bottom of the standings. New head coach, Donaldson, was brought in after a disappointing last-place finish in 2023. Although the Stars made the playoffs last year, they have only secured one win in their first six matches this season.
Fans have voiced concerns about the team’s performance, especially with key player Mallory Swanson missing all season. Jameese Joseph, a promising forward in her second year, has scored or assisted on all three of the team’s goals this season and will likely be a focal point for Chicago’s offense.
Gotham FC will be looking to key players like Esther González, who has been in superb form. González has scored seven goals in her last four matches for Gotham and nine in her last six appearances for club and country. Her scoring prowess could play a vital role in leading Gotham to victory.
The match kicks off at 1:00 PM ET at Sports Illustrated Stadium and will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. The weather forecast predicts temperatures around 68 degrees with 80% humidity and a 60% chance of rain.
Based on the current performance of both teams, predictions favor Gotham FC to win 3-0, with González, Geyse, and Sarah Schupansky expected to find the back of the net.
