TAMPA, Florida — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis faced a harsh reception at WWE‘s Saturday Night’s Main Event over the Memorial Day weekend. As he appeared ringside at the Yuengling Center, fans reportedly chanted ‘you suck’ and booed him, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.

The incident occurred while DeSantis waved to the crowd before the wrestling match began. Videos circulating on social media captured the moment, drawing attention to the governor’s unpopularity among the audience. ‘Governor Ron DeSantis just showed up and the crowd started booing him and chanting ‘you suck,’ a social media user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Despite the viral videos, the governor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comments about the event. DeSantis has served as Florida’s governor since 2019 and was reelected in 2022. He is limited to two terms under the Florida state constitution, meaning he will exit office in 2027.

Before his gubernatorial career, DeSantis launched a presidential campaign in 2024, which he later suspended after struggling to garner significant voter support. Recently, he endorsed President Trump, who had previously criticized him during the primaries.

This is not the first time a prominent Republican has faced hostility at a WWE event. In January, another Trump associate was met with boos during a surprise appearance on Monday Night Raw. Political analysts suggest DeSantis’s once strong conservative following is waning due to obstacles during his leadership and campaign efforts.

As he nears the end of his governorship, DeSantis’s future political plans remain uncertain. Political science professor Aubrey Jewett from the University of Central Florida expressed that DeSantis has lost some of the appeal he previously held, noting, ‘He’s definitely come back down to earth.’

The next Saturday Night’s Main Event is scheduled for July 12 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
