Grand Theft Auto VI Release Delayed to May 2026

BOSTON — The release of Grand Theft Auto VI has been postponed again, now scheduled for May 26, 2026. Rockstar Games announced the delay via a post on X on Friday, apologizing for the change that many fans have been anticipating for several years.
The company did not disclose specific reasons for the delay, which moves the launch from its original fall 2025 release window. “With every game we have released, the goal has been to try and exceed your expectations and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” Rockstar stated. The company emphasized the need for extra time to ensure quality.
The news affected the stock of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, which fell nearly 7% following the announcement. Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, expressed support for Rockstar’s decision, stating that the game aims to provide a groundbreaking entertainment experience.
Despite the disappointment among fans, many noted the frequent postponements, often joking about the long development cycles. The game’s last major announcement was a trailer released in December 2023, which hinted at a setting in Vice City and introduced a female protagonist named Lucia.
Some fans reacted with disappointment, like 27-year-old Dienne Kawende, who expressed frustration over the additional wait time. “I might start having kids soon. I might not even have time to play GTA 6 when it comes out,” Kawende said.
While some fans remain optimistic about the new release date, others believe there might be further delays. As anticipation continues, Rockstar stated it looks forward to providing more updates soon.
