Green Bay Packers Hire Boston College Head Coach Jeff Hafley as Defensive Coordinator
The Green Bay Packers have made a significant coaching change, hiring Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as their new defensive coordinator, according to sources.
Hafley had experienced some success during his time at Boston College, achieving a 6-5 record in 2020 and a 6-6 record in 2021, which prompted an extension through 2026. However, the team encountered a decline, finishing with a 3-9 record in 2022. Despite a tough schedule in 2023, the Eagles managed to reach bowl eligibility with a 6-6 record.
With uncertainty surrounding the college football landscape, Hafley decided to seize an opportunity to join an NFL team rather than risk his future in the ever-changing college football landscape.
The Green Bay Packers’ defense, under former coordinator Joe Barry, showed inconsistency throughout the season. While it ranked 17th in total defense and 10th in scoring, it also gave up more than 24 points in several key losses. The defense struggled in the Divisional Round playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers, surrendering a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Hafley now faces the task of bringing stability and productivity to a talented Packers defense. The organization hopes his extensive coaching experience and expertise will lead to improved performance.
