Greg Olsen Makes Bold Case for Jared Goff as NFL MVP Over Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes
FOX Sports analyst Greg Olsen, a veteran of 14 years in the NFL and a three-time Pro Bowl selection, has made a surprising pick for the NFL MVP award midway through the 2024 season. During an appearance on *The Ryen Russillo Podcast*, Olsen argued that Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff should be the MVP if the season were to end today.
Olsen praised Goff’s efficiency and production, comparing his performance to that of Brock Purdy last year. He emphasized that while Goff may not have the flashy numbers associated with typical MVP winners like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson, his overall performance is exceptional. “Jared Goff is the MVP. He has been incredible. His efficiency, his production… he’s kind of having a Brock Purdy year of last year, where I don’t know if people give him the credit compared to some of the other maybe flashy guys,” Olsen said.
Olsen’s endorsement of Goff is also influenced by the Detroit Lions’ strong standing in the NFC. He witnessed the Lions’ impressive comeback victory over the then-unbeaten Minnesota Vikings and believes this win highlights their potential as the top team in the conference. “Right now, as things stand, [the NFC] goes through Detroit… they beat Minnesota on the road. Fell down early… kinda got themselves in a little bit of a hole, then their offense just explodes, and they go bananas,” Olsen noted.
The Lions, currently 6-1, are set to face the Green Bay Packers in a crucial divisional matchup this Sunday. A win would solidify their position as the NFC’s top seed, while a loss could drop them to second place behind the Packers.
In addition to his analysis, Olsen will be back in the broadcast booth this weekend, providing color commentary for the Falcons vs. Cowboys game on FOX, alongside play-by-play announcer Adam Amin and sideline reporter Pam Oliver.
