Grizzlies Overcome Suns in Kevin Durant’s Milestone Game
Phoenix, Arizona – The Memphis Grizzlies faced off against the Phoenix Suns on February 11, 2025, continuing their five-game road trip. Coming off a home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Grizzlies were determined to regain momentum. The Suns, eager to build on their previous win over the Denver Nuggets, were led by Kevin Durant, who was marking his return after missing three games with an ankle sprain.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins deployed his typical starting lineup, featuring Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Jaylen Wells, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Zach Edey. In contrast, Suns coach Mike Budenholzer welcomed the return of Durant to join Devin Booker, Tyus Jones, Bol Bol, and Nick Richards.
The Grizzlies took command early, establishing a double-digit lead during the first quarter. Santi Aldama, coming off the bench, played a significant role, scoring 11 of his 14 points in that period. Memphis ballooned their lead to 19 points at the height of the second quarter, but the Suns managed to cut the deficit to 12 points by halftime.
“We knew we had to start strong, especially on the road,” said Morant. “Our early game execution really set the tone.”
Memphis entered the fourth quarter still in front, leading 95-87. However, the Suns made a strong push, getting within four points with three minutes left. Despite the pressure, the Grizzlies maintained their composure.
In a game that featured numerous lead changes, Ja Morant led the charge for Memphis with 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Bane supported with 20 points, revitalizing his performance in the second half after a slow start, while Edey and Jackson contributed key contributions. Aldama’s impactful presence off the bench with 14 points added depth to the team’s performance.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence in our bench,” Jenkins stated. “Santi stepped up when we needed him.”
Durant put forth a remarkable effort for the Suns, logging 42 minutes on the court and finishing with 34 points, three rebounds, three assists, and five blocks. His performance marked a significant milestone as he became the eighth player in NBA history to reach 30,000 career points.
“It felt great to be back out there, but ultimately, it’s about winning,” Durant remarked after the game.
Bol Bol posted an impressive double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, contributing defensively with four blocks. Devin Booker also scored 17 points and distributed nine assists, while Royce O’Neale chipped in 11 points off the bench.
The clash was tightly contested, and the Suns showed resilience in the second half. However, Memphis sealed their 119-112 victory with crucial free throws from Morant and Bane down the stretch.
With this win, the Grizzlies improved to 36-23 for the season, while the Suns continue to aim for playoff positioning amid their ongoing battles in the Western Conference.
