Hartsfield Jackson Airport Runway Issues

ATLANTA, Ga. — A ground stop was ordered Sunday morning at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport due to an equipment outage affecting runway operations, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA issued the ground stop at approximately 10:40 a.m. ET, which is expected to last until noon. This measure affects flights scheduled to depart from East Coast airports bound for Atlanta.

As a result of the runway equipment issue, arrivals at the airport have slowed significantly. Technicians are currently working to resolve the issue. By 11:30 a.m., the FAA reported that 264 flights had been delayed, and three flights had been canceled.

The FAA has implemented a Traffic Management Program at the airport, indicating that some arriving flight schedules could be affected due to these delays.

This incident in Atlanta coincides with ongoing travel disruptions at Newark Liberty International Airport, where flights have faced significant delays for nearly two weeks. FAA staffing shortages and runway construction at Newark have compounded travel woes.

Travelers are advised to monitor flight statuses and consider rebooking through nearby airports if necessary. Airlines, including United Airlines, are signaling flexibility by waiving change fees for affected passengers.

The situation remains fluid as updates are anticipated throughout the day. Passengers are encouraged to stay informed about the latest developments from FAA communications.
