2024 Halloween Storm Minnesota Precipitation Records

In a significant weather event, the 2024 Halloween storm has set a new record in Minnesota, surpassing the infamous Halloween blizzard of 1991 in terms of precipitation. According to KARE 11 meteorologist Ben Dery, the 2024 storm has been declared the wettest Halloween on record in the state.

The 1991 Halloween blizzard, which is still widely remembered by Minnesotans, recorded 8.2 inches of snow at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), translating to about 0.85 inches of liquid precipitation. In contrast, as of 2 p.m. on October 31, 2024, MSP had recorded 1.18 inches of total precipitation, combining both rain and snow that fell throughout the morning and early afternoon.

This new record adds another chapter to Minnesota’s Halloween weather lore, which is already rich with stories from the 1991 blizzard. The 1991 event is particularly memorable due to its severe impact, with significant snowfall and strong winds affecting the region.

The 2024 storm’s record-breaking precipitation highlights the variability and unpredictability of Minnesota’s weather, especially during the fall season.
