Nerene Virgin, a Canadian Trailblazer and respected journalist, has passed away at the age of 77, surrounded by her loved ones. Hailing from Hamilton, Virgin began her career in education before venturing into the realm of educational television. She rose to fame as ‘Jodie‘ on the widely popular TVO and Nickelodeon series ‘Today’s Special’.

While her role as ‘Jodie’ brought initial recognition, Virgin later established herself as a proficient television news anchor. Moreover, she had a noteworthy familial connection as the great niece of Reverend John C. Holland, a prominent figure in Hamilton’s Black community. Inspired by her great uncle’s legacy, she placed great emphasis on advocating for social justice.
