Happy Gilmore 2 Set to Premiere on Netflix This Summer

LOS ANGELES, California — The highly anticipated sequel to the iconic 1996 film “Happy Gilmore” will debut on Netflix on July 25, 2025. Adam Sandler will once again take on the role of the unconventional golfer, bringing back his beloved character nearly three decades after he first gained fame.
Fans of the original film can rejoice as many of their favorite aspects are returning. Alongside Sandler, original cast members Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald will reprise their roles. A new generation of golf stars will also join the ensemble, with notable appearances from Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Justin Thomas.
“It was so cool to be around everybody and be around Chris (McDonald) and just all of it,” Thomas said, reflecting on his experience on set. He acknowledged how much the original movie shaped his childhood. “That movie, that generation of movies is literally what we grew up on,” he noted.
The film’s production took place throughout 2024, featuring numerous filming locations including a golf club in New Jersey. This venture is part of a broader collaboration with the PGA Tour, which has invested in Pro Shop, the media company behind the film.
Sandler recently teased more surprises in the sequel, including unexpected cameos. “I think we just hung out a day with Eminem, and he was funny as hell,” Sandler revealed. “He came in and was great.” This significant celebrity appearance adds to the film’s appeal, connecting it with broader pop culture.
As seen in the trailer released last Christmas, the sequel vows to capture the charm of the original while introducing new comedic elements. Adam Sandler’s character is set to navigate through a prestigious golf tournament while reigniting his rivalry with Shooter McGavin, played by McDonald.
The first episode of Netflix’s “Full Swing” Season 3 provided fans with an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of the film, giving insight into the collaboration between Sandler and the professional golfers appearing in the movie.
“We are excited for everyone to see it,” McDonald said. “It’s going to be off the hook. Everyone is going to be really, really happy with it.”
As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build for “Happy Gilmore 2.” With its mix of nostalgia and modern golfing icons, the sequel promises to deliver laughs and memorable moments for both longtime fans and new audiences alike.
