HBO’s Harry Potter Series Casts Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Dursleys

LOS ANGELES, CA — HBO‘s upcoming adaptation of the iconic Harry Potter series has cast Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon Dursley, respectively. The announcement was made on June 9, 2025, bringing fresh excitement to fans of J.K. Rowling‘s beloved books.
The Dursleys play a crucial role in the story, taking Harry in after the death of his parents. However, they treat Harry poorly, forcing him to live in a cupboard and treating him like a servant instead of family. Fans might remember Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths portraying the Dursleys in the original film series.
While the casting of Petunia and Vernon is now confirmed, the character of their son, Dudley, remains uncast. Powley, known for her roles in “Masters of the Air” and “The Morning Show,” is 33 years old, while Rigby, recognized for “Tom Jones,” is 42. This makes them much closer in age to the Dursleys in the books than their movie counterparts were.
Other notable cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. Leo Earley, Alessia Leoni, and Sienna Moosah also join the cast as Hogwarts students.
HBO has characterized the series as a “faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s series, aiming to capture all aspects of the wizarding world. The project is led by executive producer and showrunner Francesca Gardiner. Direction will be overseen by Mark Mylod, who is also an executive producer.
As cameras are set to roll soon at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, fans are eager to see how this new adaptation will unfold.
