Heavy Rain Weather Central Indiana New Orleans

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Heavy rain is expected to impact outdoor activities across Central Indiana through Saturday night. The muggy air has returned, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the region as an approaching upper-low moves closer.

Residents are advised to prepare for flash flooding as rain rates could exceed two inches per hour in some areas. The National Weather Service has placed all of Indiana under a Level 1 risk for flash flooding today and tomorrow.

Starting midday, rain intensity is predicted to ramp up, with heavy downpours expected during peak heating hours. Two key scenarios could unfold: Widespread midday rain may limit late-day storm development, or a drier midday could allow for more significant storms later.

In New Orleans, WDSU has declared a First Warning Weather Impact Day due to expected heavy rain this afternoon and evening, which could lead to flash flooding as well. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to pick up around noon.

Residents in Tangipahoa Parish and the River Parishes are particularly at risk, with heavy rain expected between noon and 5 p.m. A flash flood warning is possible as localized flooding is anticipated.

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has also issued warnings due to severe weather threats impacting the region. He urged Texans to stay weather-aware and check road conditions regularly.

Those with outdoor plans are encouraged to stay vigilant and monitor weather updates closely as conditions may change rapidly. With the potential for high rainfall and stormy weather, it is imperative to keep rain gear handy.

This wet weather pattern is projected to continue throughout the weekend, with slight improvements expected by late Sunday.
