Holger Rune Carlos Alcaraz Netflix Documentary

ROME, Italy — Holger Rune, a familiar face in tennis, has shared his thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz‘s new Netflix documentary, “Carlos Alcaraz: My Way.” This film highlights Alcaraz’s rise to tennis stardom during his successful 2024 season, where he won both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Rune watched the three-part series and rated it highly. After his 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Francisco Comesana at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, he discussed the film in the locker room with Alcaraz. “I think it’s good. I think it’s nice for tennis fans to see more of what’s behind the scenes,” Rune said. “It’s cool, because we’re all human.”

The two players have a history, having competed against each other in their junior years. Rune joked that he might have been more serious than Alcaraz back then, saying, “I might have been a little bit more serious than him in juniors, but he’s catching up and is very serious now!” He praised Alcaraz’s talent even as a young player, noting their different backgrounds. “Spanish people live differently than Danish people. It’s a different kind of character,” Rune added.

Released this month, the documentary includes personal insights from Alcaraz, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, and his family. Alcaraz expressed his nervousness about how viewers would perceive the docuseries. “Honestly, I was nervous,” he admitted during a press conference. “So far, the reactions have been super positive, which, for me, it was great.”

One significant part of the series features a candid discussion between Alcaraz and Ferrero about balancing his career and personal life. Alcaraz acknowledged that time away from the court can be a distraction but emphasized the importance of maintaining his path. “Whoever says they don’t have it, they lie,” he stated regarding the common concerns of players about their off-court activities.

Alcaraz is preparing to compete again after withdrawing from the Mutua Madrid Open due to an injury. He is set to face Dusan Lajovic in his next match. Rune and Alcaraz are currently tied at 2-2 in their ATP head-to-head record, with a potential matchup looming in the quarterfinals at Foro Italico.
