Film Adaptations Video Games

LOS ANGELES, CA — The movie industry is experiencing a revitalization, with high-stakes projects generating buzz among studios. This momentum could impact two major film adaptations, but the outcomes remain uncertain.

One of the projects in focus is a feature adaptation of a popular video game, which has a notable director from the acclaimed musical ‘Wicked‘ attached. The screenplay is written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the creative minds behind successful franchises like ‘Deadpool‘ and ‘Zombieland.’ Bids for this project are reportedly in the multiple millions, with Sony and Amazon MGM Studios vying for it. Currently, MGM appears to be in the lead, and the deal could be finalized by early next week.

Another intriguing project is a supernatural undersea film titled ‘Deeper,’ which is expected to star Ana de Armas. The film follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while exploring an uncharted trench. De Armas has been spotted with the film’s director recently, and they are undergoing diving training for the role.

‘Deeper’ has been in development for nearly a decade. Originally, it was placed at MGM in April 2016 with a script by Max Landis. Over the years, various iterations faced challenges, including the involvement of Bradley Cooper and later Idris Elba. The film is now estimated to have a budget in the $200 million range, which proved too high for Warner Bros.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is gaining attention at the Cannes Film Festival with another project set to perform well at the box office. Both Cruise and De Armas are positioned for a successful run in Hollywood, as they prepare to collaborate on future projects.

Stay tuned for updates as these developments unfold in the film industry.
