SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Housemarque, the studio known for its acclaimed title Returnal, announced today the forthcoming release of its new game, Saros, which is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026.
Saros introduces players to a haunting new narrative set on the planet Carcosa during an ominous eclipse. Players will step into the role of Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer, on a quest to uncover the fate of a lost off-world colony. The game’s creative director emphasized the desire to evolve the deep third-person action and storytelling elements that were well-received in Returnal.
“After Returnal, we knew we had created something special and award-winning, but we wanted to give it space to stand on its own,” the creative director stated. “With Saros, we are creating an emotional and powerful character study that blooms into a gripping narrative,” they added.
One significant feature of Saros is its permanent progression system. Unlike its predecessor, each death in Saros will not only enhance the world but will also allow players to choose and permanently upgrade their arsenal with an evolving array of weapons and suit enhancements. “Every death is valuable, and you will return stronger, equipped to tackle challenges on Carcosa,” the creative director explained.
Rahul Kohli, known for roles in Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, voices Arjun and has been praised for his performance. “Rahul is truly bringing Arjun to life,” the creative director noted. “His collaboration has been instrumental in conveying our story.”
Future announcements regarding Saros will include more details about the RPG’s ensemble cast of NPC characters and additional narrative elements. “We cannot wait to share more about our gameplay mechanics, art, audio, music, technology, and how we are pushing the limits of PS5 console hardware,” the creative director stated.
The game’s reveal trailer, which debuted during the latest State of Play presentation, gives players a glimpse into the eerie landscapes and thrilling action they can expect. Housemarque promises that an extended gameplay look will be available later this year.
