Hulu Sets July Premiere for ‘Washington Black’ Starring Sterling K. Brown

LOS ANGELES, May 20, 2025 — Hulu has announced the premiere date for its upcoming series, “Washington Black,” which stars and is executive produced by Sterling K. Brown. The show will debut all eight episodes on Wednesday, July 23, on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
Based on Esi Edugyan’s bestselling novel, “Washington Black” tells the story of George Washington ‘Wash’ Black, an eleven-year-old boy born on a sugar plantation in Barbados. Wash possesses a remarkable scientific mind that sets him on an extraordinary path. Following a traumatic event, he escapes into a world of adventure that transforms his understanding of family, freedom, and love.
The narrative follows Wash as he tackles uncharted territories and fierce challenges, ultimately finding the courage to envision a life beyond the restrictions of his upbringing.
In addition to Sterling K. Brown, the series features a talented ensemble cast, including Ernest Kingsley Jr., Rupert Graves, Iola Evans, Edward Bluemel, Sharon Duncan Brewster, Eddie Karanja, and Tom Ellis.
“Washington Black” is produced by 20th Television in partnership with Indian Meadows Productions and The Gotham Group. The series is executive produced by Selwyn Hinds, Kim Harrison, Brown, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wanuri Kahiu, Mo Marable, Rob Seidenglanz, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, D.J. Goldberg, Jennifer Johnson, and Anthony Hemingway. Hinds and Harrison will also serve as showrunners, while Edugyan acts as co-producer.
