Hyundai Issues Multiple Recalls Affecting Over 300,000 Vehicles in the US
Hyundai Motor America has announced several significant recalls affecting a substantial number of vehicles in the United States. One of the recalls involves certain 2024 Hyundai Sonata vehicles, where the software for the brake lights may cause them to flash and not illuminate properly. This issue fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108 and can increase the risk of a crash due to confusion for other drivers. Dealers will update the rear brake light software free of charge, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed on October 5, 2024. Approximately 12,612 vehicles are affected by this recall.
Another recall targets 2010-2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe vehicles due to a potential fracture in the return spring of the ignition lock switch. This can result in unintended vehicle movement when the vehicle is started in gear without the parking brake applied, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the ignition lock switch free of charge, with owner notification letters mailed on September 23, 2024. This recall affects about 49,719 vehicles.
Additionally, certain 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles are being recalled due to a software error in the transmission control unit that may cause the vehicle to roll away when in PARK. Owners are advised to use the emergency parking brake after parking. Dealers will update the transmission control unit software and inspect and replace the dual clutch transmission as necessary, all at no cost. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on September 9, 2024, affecting around 54,647 vehicles.
A separate recall covers over 200,000 electric vehicles, including models such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, GV70, and G80. These vehicles are being recalled due to a power loss issue that can increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects nearly 145,000 vehicles in the United States and includes concerns related to the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU).
These recalls highlight ongoing safety concerns and the proactive measures Hyundai is taking to address them. Vehicle owners are advised to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 for more information.
