Ice Arrest Immigration Enforcement Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended Emerson Eduardo Ferreira, a 52-year-old Brazilian national, who had been convicted in Connecticut of multiple offenses, including sexual assault and unlawful restraint. Ferreira was arrested on January 24, 2025, in Brooklyn, Connecticut, following his release from state custody.

According to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde, Ferreira’s actions show a severe disregard for the law and public safety. “Emerson Eduardo Ferreira violated the terms of his lawful admission into the United States and brutally victimized a Connecticut resident,” Hyde stated. “ICE Boston remains dedicated to our mission of prioritizing public safety by arresting and removing egregious alien offenders.”

Ferreira originally entered the United States legally on April 27, 1999. However, he later breached the conditions of his lawful admission. The Connecticut Superior Court in Bridgeport found him guilty on August 9, 2023, of sexual assault against a spouse or cohabitant, first-degree unlawful restraint, and two counts of violating a protective order. He received an 18-year prison sentence, which is suspended after four years, followed by ten years of probation.

Following his conviction, ICE issued an immigration detainer against Ferreira on April 28, 2024, with the Connecticut Department of Corrections. After his recent arrest, ICE served Ferreira with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. He currently remains in ICE custody pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings.

ICE encourages the public to report crimes or suspicious activities by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or submitting an online report.
