RIYAD, Saudi ArabiaIga Świątek, the second seed from Poland, is set to face Amanda Anisimova from the United States in a crucial group stage match at the WTA Finals today, November 5, 2025. This showdown will determine which player advances to the semifinals of the prestigious tournament.

Świątek began the WTA Finals with a commanding victory against American Madison Keys, winning 6-1, 6-2. However, her second match against Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina ended in disappointment, with scores of 6-3, 1-6, 0-6. Despite this, Świątek still holds one win and one loss in the ‘Serena Williams’ group.

To secure her spot in the semifinals, Świątek must defeat Anisimova, also representing the United States. The match is scheduled to start no earlier than 4:30 PM local time. Earlier in the tournament, Anisimova has made an impact, and both players have faced each other twice already this season.

The last two encounters between Świątek and Anisimova occurred this year. In the Wimbledon final, Świątek dominated Anisimova with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory. Anisimova got her revenge a few weeks later at the US Open, securing a 6-4, 6-3 win on home soil.

Today’s match is significant. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner will face either Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, or Jessica Pegula, all top contenders in the other group. The finals of the WTA Finals are set for November 8.

With a total prize pool of over $15 million, the stakes are high, and the winner of the WTA Finals will take home $5,235,000, provided they win all their matches in the group stage.

The WTA Finals, originally known as the WTA Championships, have been held since 1972. Martina Navratilova holds the record with eight victories. In recent history, 2015 champion Agnieszka Radwańska and 2023 champion Świątek have highlighted Poland’s prowess in women’s tennis.
