Iga Świątek Tennis Interview June 2025

PARIS, France — Iga Świątek, the Polish tennis star, is encountering a tumultuous period in her career. After an unexpected exit in the semifinals of the French Open on June 8, 2025, Świątek, who held the second spot in the WTA rankings earlier this year, has dropped to eighth place.

During the tournament, Świątek was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka, halting her chances of defending her title. Following this loss, she expressed a desire to stay in Warsaw for several months to experience life at a normal pace, prompting discussions about her potential break or retirement from the sport.

In an interview with Sport.pl, Świątek dismissed rumors of taking a break from tennis. “Many people ask me if I want a break, but that’s not true. Someone asked me about my dreams outside of tennis, so I answered,” she clarified.

She stirred further conversation when she criticized the tennis conditions in Poland during an appearance on ‘Dzień dobry TVN,’ stating, “We could have better conditions regarding the number of sports facilities for tennis.” She emphasized her desire to make tennis more accessible for children once she retires.

Building on her performance, Świątek has noted various improvements in her game, crediting coach Wim Fissette for recent training adjustments. “We modified my position for forehands, which has helped me a lot,” she shared. As she prepares for the grass court season, she is focusing on refining her technique.

Currently, she is training in Mallorca for the upcoming WTA 500 tournament in Bad Homburg, where she plans to adapt her game strategy for grass surfaces. Despite her recent ranking drop, Świątek remains optimistic about her future in the sport, saying, “I don’t need a break. I know how tough it is to come back after even a month off.”

Świątek’s journey now leads her toward Bad Homburg and, eventually, Wimbledon, aiming to regain her footing as she overcomes the challenges she faces.
