The second day of the India vs Bangladesh Test match in Kanpur was marred by persistent rain, leading to a complete washout as not a single ball was bowled throughout the day. Morning showers ensured that the Green Park Stadium remained under covers, forcing the players to stay indoors and leaving spectators disappointed.

Efforts by the groundsmen to prepare the ground were hampered by the continuous drizzle, making any resumption of play impossible. By 2:34 PM, officials confirmed that no further play would occur on that day, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

After Day 1’s play was also severely restricted, only 35 overs were possible due to rain and bad light, the situation didn’t improve on the second day. At the close of play on Day 1, Bangladesh was positioned at 107-3. Mominul Haque exhibited a resolute performance, staying unbeaten at 40 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim partnered his efforts with a six-run contribution.

As conditions stood, the Indian bowlers—Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj—aimed to capitalize on the overcast conditions, hoping for assistance from the pitch. Akash Deep was notably effective with his seam deliveries, taking two crucial wickets by dismissing Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam before the close on Day 1, where only a few overs were possible.

The continuous rain poses significant challenges for both teams. India’s Rohit Sharma took the unconventional decision to field first after winning the toss, expecting the pitch to offer something for the bowlers, an unusual choice in Indian playing conditions.

Looking ahead, forecasts predict further rain over the weekend. Both teams are on standby, hoping for clearer skies to explore the potential of turning this fixture into a competitive match in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan‘s announcement of his retirement from international cricket added an emotional angle to the ongoing Test series, with this potentially being his final appearance unless plans change.
