INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WDRB) — The Indianapolis 500 is nearly here, with the race airing live on WDRB this Sunday, May 25, 2025, starting at 10 a.m. As excitement builds for ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’ WDRB has taken a closer look at the preparations that make this event iconic.

The race is the 109th running of the Indy 500, which Doug Boles, president of IndyCar Racing and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, describes as a celebration of rich history and tradition. ‘It’s about the generations of people who have followed both the Indy 500 and the Kentucky Derby,’ he said. ‘These events unite fans across the country for a special occasion.’

This year’s race will enjoy enhanced coverage thanks to a new partnership with FOX. Boles noted the significance of this collaboration, mentioning that FOX’s involvement is expected to elevate the event even further. ‘They’ve been here this weekend, and the promotions they’ve run have us very excited,’ Boles said.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is regarded as a living museum that showcases American tradition. At the track’s center is the Pagoda control tower, which oversees race operations and the broadcast.

Dave Calabro, who has been the lead announcer at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 40 years, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming race. ‘FOX has gone all out for this year’s race,’ Calabro stated. He noted that around 600 credentialed personnel from FOX will enhance this year’s spectacle.

Calabro added that attendees can look forward to an exciting experience filled with celebrities and enhanced technology for both casual viewers and dedicated fans. ‘This is already a huge spectacle, but FOX will take it to the next level.’

Fans can catch the full action of the 109th Indianapolis 500 live on WDRB this Sunday.
