Indycar Drivers Qualifying Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Some of the fastest drivers in the world will compete for starting positions in the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 this weekend. Qualifying begins Saturday at 11 a.m. ET at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Qualifying is a crucial part of the Indy 500, almost as important as the race itself. Drivers will need to show they have the speed to keep pace with the top competitors in the NTT IndyCar Series. Last year, Scott McLaughlin from New Zealand set a qualifying record by reaching a speed of 234.22 miles per hour.

On Saturday, the majority of the field will be decided. Sunday will see the top 12 drivers finalized, with positions seven through 12 being determined first. The top six fastest qualifiers will advance to the Fast Six later that evening to contest for pole position.

This year, 34 drivers will compete for 33 spots on the grid. Notably, there are eight former Indy 500 winners and four rookies among the participants, representing 14 different countries. Key times for the weekend include practice and qualifying sessions throughout both days.

“The Month of May means one thing for race fans — The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” said an official statement from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

For viewers looking to catch the action, FOX Sports 1 will broadcast the qualifying events starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

As the weather could affect the schedule, fans are reminded to stay updated for any changes. The excitement builds as drivers prepare to make their mark in this historic race.
