Intense Standoff in Manchester Ends with Arrest of Man

MANCHESTER, N.H. — A 34-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after a standoff with police that began when shots were reported fired in the Beech Hill Drive neighborhood. Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire at approximately 3:30 a.m.
According to police logs, the incident occurred at the apartment building located at 118 Beech Hill Drive, where witnesses reported an intense police response. Tim Proctor, a neighbor, described the scene as chaotic.
“I saw SWAT coming up and using drones and robots and everything,” Proctor said. “It was a lot of cops around, and I heard some gunshots.”
Officers determined that gunfire had struck the apartment building; however, no injuries were reported. As police attempted to coax the man out of the apartment, they fired gas canisters and used a bullhorn to communicate with him, urging him to surrender.
“If you do not come out and listen to the commands of the officers, then we will send the dogs to bite,” Proctor recalled officers stating. Proctor added that police repeated this warning several times, but the man did not comply.
In the course of the standoff, three bullet holes were observed in a neighboring duplex, and other bullet damage was visible on the windows of the apartment where the suspect remained. Police subsequently issued a shelter-in-place order to nearby residents, which was lifted around 9 a.m.
SWAT teams eventually took the man into custody around 8:30 a.m. He is facing charges of resisting arrest. Police did not disclose who fired the initial shots, and the investigation remains ongoing.
