Intergenerational Carnival Celebration Takes Center Stage in Beauséjour on Mardi Gras
Beauséjour, a quaint village nestled in the heights of Sainte-Marie, was filled with excitement and vibrant energy on Mardi Gras morning as children and residents from various institutions came together for a grand carnival celebration.
Over 400 children, along with teachers, parents, and students from Beauséjour and Levavasseur colleges, as well as residents of The SEGNORIALES Residence in Beauséjour, and beneficiaries of the Henri Vergoz Medical Institute added their unique charm to the event.
Accompanied by lively music and colorful costumes, an enchanting parade featuring a stilt walker and a tractor decorated by the children wound its way through the village streets, captivating onlookers of all ages.
The inclusivity and joy of the carnival were evident as participants from diverse backgrounds, including young people with disabilities and older adults, came together to revel in the festive spirit.
The procession featured a variety of costumes, from beloved heroes and princesses to everyday characters like firefighters and astronauts, allowing the children to immerse themselves in a world of imagination and creativity.
Psychologists believe that the act of dressing up not only sparks children’s imaginations but also encourages role-playing, helping them explore different identities and responsibilities through play.
