Investigation Continues in Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Vista, California
VISTA, Calif. (CNS) — Detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Vista on Friday night.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Vista Station responded to reports of the accident at 8:14 p.m. near the 300 block of South Melrose Drive. Upon arrival, they found a pedestrian lying in a northbound lane after being struck by a gray Toyota RAV4 SUV.
Despite the efforts of deputies and paramedics to perform life-saving measures, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 8:45 p.m., according to the sheriff’s department.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities stated that the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.
The Vista Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit is leading the investigation. They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to contact the station at (760) 940-4551.
