In a dramatic turn of events at the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah, Venkatesh Iyer has been sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a staggering amount of Rs 23.75 crore. This makes him the third most expensive Indian player in the auction.
Iyer, who was categorized in Set 4 of capped all-rounders, saw his value soar significantly from his base price of Rs 2 crore, marking an increase of over 11 times. The intense bidding war involved several teams, with KKR ultimately securing his services.
The left-handed batter, known for his versatile skills, will be returning to KKR, the team he previously played for. This move is seen as a strategic investment by KKR, aiming to bolster their squad for the upcoming IPL season.
The auction witnessed a fierce competition between KKR and other teams, including the Lucknow Super Giants, before KKR emerged victorious in securing Iyer’s contract.
