Ipl Match Tributes Pahalgam Attack

Hyderabad, India — Players of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will wear black armbands during their IPL match on April 23, 2025. This tribute honors the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which killed at least 26 people.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that there will be no cheerleaders or fireworks at the match as a mark of respect. A minute of silence will also be observed before the game begins.

The attack occurred on April 22, when gunmen from a terrorist group opened fire on civilians in a crowded tourist area. The Resistance Front, linked to the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the assault, which has drawn international condemnation.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed condolences, saying, “The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives.” He added that the board stands with the families affected by the violence.

Star cricketer Virat Kohli also took to social media to express his sorrow, saying, “Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.” He urged for justice against those responsible for the attack.

The match will take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, providing an opportunity for fans to join in the tribute. With the gap between India and Pakistan growing due to ongoing violence, there are calls for action to restrict cricketing ties between the two nations.
